Okay, really now. I think if I read about how Ron and Hermione aren't right for each other because they tease each other and bicker, I might have an apoplexy.

John Crichton and Aeryn Sun beat the crap out of each other on occasion! (zomg! abuuuuuuuuuse!) Buttercup treated Westley horribly. Will Thatcher yelled at Joceyln!

And I've come this far, and I just don't have the energy to go on to the "but how often does Harry defend his twu wub against Ron's vicious attacks?" or the "um, haven't you ever been a kid/teenager with out of control hormones and the whole 'pulling-her-pig-tails-cuz-he-likes-her" thing or... just...

Eh, for me the attacking with birds crosses the line from childish bickering to being straight out spiteful. Plus, I find Hermione frequently condascending towards Ron, even contemptuous. That's just my opinion, though.

I guess because so many of my other favourite couples/pairings have, essentially, treated each other with equal contempt/condescension/shot at each other/etc that I barely even bat an eyelash when it comes to Ron and Hermione -- they're amateurs. (Also because I've had guys who I later found out had massive crushes on me treat me in a condescending or, um, physical sort of fashion *g*)

I'm always thinking "But it's been done before and I've never read anything about people going on about how John and Aeryn aren't meant for each other because of the physical violence." So ultimately I ponder why spiteful comments, or condescension/contempt, seem to be okay for grown-up fictional couples (before they officially get together), but not a teenage fictional couple. It confuzzles me. D:

(Now, I feel I should probably note that there are couples in my book who are, to all extents and purposes, "perfect" that I like too -- not all of my favourite couples are dysfunctional in some way before they end up together...)

It's just not a type of pairing I'm personally particularly into. I tend to prefer pairings that are out-and-out horrible to each other or pairings that are completely fluffy. But, again, just my personal bias.

Kids will be kids. You said it, girl. Didn't anyone go out for recess in elementary school? If it didn't happen to you, didn't you notice it happening to other kids? Girls got teased by boys, boys got teased by boys, and then later you saw them in the trees or under the bleachers kissing. Kids can be cruel, though they don't know how cruel they can be.

Well, we've certainly had this conversation! Heh.

I didn't even really bat an eyelash at the whole canary thing because it seemed to be fairly well a magical equivalent to a kid pushing the girl he likes into a mud puddle or something. I mean, teenagers do crazy things and I think give them that kind of power and push them enough and, yeah, the hormones will make them freak out. But instead of pitching a screaming and crying hissy fit, she, well... *shrug*
