I guess because so many of my other favourite couples/pairings have, essentially, treated each other with equal contempt/condescension/shot at each other/etc that I barely even bat an eyelash when it comes to Ron and Hermione -- they're amateurs. (Also because I've had guys who I later found out had massive crushes on me treat me in a condescending or, um, physical sort of fashion *g*)
I'm always thinking "But it's been done before and I've never read anything about people going on about how John and Aeryn aren't meant for each other because of the physical violence." So ultimately I ponder why spiteful comments, or condescension/contempt, seem to be okay for grown-up fictional couples (before they officially get together), but not a teenage fictional couple. It confuzzles me. D:
(Now, I feel I should probably note that there are couples in my book who are, to all extents and purposes, "perfect" that I like too -- not all of my favourite couples are dysfunctional in some way before they end up together...)
