We dream of hope. We dream of change. Fire, and love, and death. And then it happens.

The dream becomes real. And the answer to this quest, this need to solve life's mysteries, finally shows itself. Like the glowing light of a new dawn.

So much struggle for meaning, for purpose, and in the end, we find it only in each other. Our shared experience of the fantastic, and the mundane.

The simple human need to find a kindred, to connect, and to know in our hearts that we are not alone.

Original article here. I'm reposting it in its entirety, minus the pictures. It took me a moment to wonder how in the heck they could call The Empire Strikes Back too old, and then it dawned on me that they didn't include anything from before 1982 -- top 25 science-fiction movies/shows from the past 25 years. I'm 25. Duh.

here's the article: The top 25 sci-fi movies and TV from the past 25 years )

And of course, what's any sort of reposting of a Top # of Whatever list without a little commentary? )

So before the month expires, here's one of my current favourites.

Left Behind
Florence Percy

It was the autumn of the year;
The strawberry-leaves were red and sear;
October's airs were fresh and chill,
When, pausing on the windy hill,
The hill that overlooks the sea,
You talked confidingly to me,--
Me whom your keen, artistic sight
Has not yet learned to read aright,
Since I have veiled my heart from you,
And loved you better than you knew.

You told me of your toilsome past; )

I'm sure there are people who have seen this before, but I found it lying about, and thought I'd share it in case anyone hadn't seen it!

Dearest creature in creation,
Study English pronunciation.
I will teach you in my verse
Sounds like corpse, corps, horse, and worse.
I will keep you, Suzy, busy,
Make your head with heat grow dizzy.
Tear in eye, your dress will tear.
So shall I! Oh hear my prayer.

Just compare heart, beard, and heard,
Dies and diet, lord and word,
Sword and sward, retain and Britain.
(Mind the latter, how it's written.)
Now I surely will not plague you
With such words as plaque and ague.
But be careful how you speak:
Say break and steak, but bleak and streak;
Cloven, oven, how and low,
Script, receipt, show, poem, and toe.

Hear me say, devoid of trickery )

A little bit of Boromir for an overcast Monday )

Have sketching to do for homework for tonight... blah... still not back into the swing of things with the drawingness. Ah well. But one last thing, before I rush off to do that...

Somebody has to make a Farscape vid to this song:

Johnny
by October Project (from "Falling Further In")

There was Johnny like a stranger
Living in a small town
Measuring the small time
He was thinner than a razor
Johnny in a small town
Living with his thumb on the trigger
Wishing he could be
Just a little bit bigger
Bored
To the heart of himself

He was trouble in the making
Trouble in the keeping
History repeating
He was walking into danger
Johnny in a small town
Looking for a light in a tunnel
Creeping in the dark
And doubting if the sun'll
Shine
To the heart of himelf

chorus:
And he tells himself
It'll be all right
Happiness is just around the corner
And he tells himself
It'll be okay
Happiness is just a life away

She was pretty as a picture
Shining in a window
Everybody said so
What did Johnny have to give her
Johnny in a small town
Putting on a suit he had borrowed
Knowing she would probably
Leave him tomorrow
Leave
Him alone with himself

chorus

Everything is different
But it's all the same to him
Everything is nothing like it was
Before she came
Before she stayed
And went away

She left Johnny like a stranger
Waiting in a small town
Measuring the small time
Nights were longer than the days were
Living in a small town

Looking for a door he could open
Hoping that he wouldn't break
Until he'd broken
Free
To the heart of himeslf

chorus

Was actually looking for a different CD altogether, but found Moxy Fruvous's "Bargainville" instead and decided that I absolutely MUST take the trip down nostalgia lane to 1993. And then, I remembered about this song. Wow. And I almost cried. Because of it's political nature, I've placed the lyrics behind a cut tag. It's one of those things I wish I had written.

Gulf War Song )

So exactly how many people do I owe letters, feedback, feedback responses to? Too fucking many. How long have I been trying to fill in anything deep and meaningful for what [livejournal.com profile] cruisedirector and I wrote for "Sons of Gondor" part 4? Too fucking long. I suck. That's all I can say to anybody I owe anything to. Sheesh.
