Weeeeell.

Right before Christmas, my DVD player dieded. My parents had purchased the extended warranty/PSP through FutureShop, so we took it in right after Christmas. Was told that if it was too costly to fix, or just couldn't be fixed, or took more than 30 days, I would get an equal or greater model in return. W00t, says I, hoping that it would take them the full 30 days, or whatever, so I could just get a new player. Well, 30 days goes by, and I receive no call from FutureShop. Call 'em up today, and, w00t, I can go in and get a new DVD player.

Now, what I was told by the FutureShop guy helping to find the appropriate player to return was that the "equal or greater" was not in terms of value (the original DVD player was $199; the one they gave me was $89), but features. Okay, says I. So he looks for one that's equivalent. Gives me my player. Says there are actually some better features; this one is ProgressiveScan, the other one wasn't.

Hooked it up and played around with it just now.

1) It's *QUIET*. You have to jack up the volume to hear it. Go back to the TV mode, and the TV is WAY too loud. On the old one, never had to do that.

2) The previous DVD player had four different modes for picture enhancement (EPM). This one has only one.

3) The previous DVD player had four different modes for audio enhancement (EAM). This one has only one.

4) Now, with every DVD player, I know, if you're watching something, and then just hit "stop", all you have to do is hit "play" and it'll resume where you were. My new one does that. But in the old one, the same thing applied if you just turned the machine directly off; not hitting "stop", just the "power" -- turn it back on and it picks up where you left off. Guess what this one doesn't do? Yeah, that's right.

So how is this one the equivalent when the only thing it seems to have that my old one didn't, is ProgressiveScan-ness. And it seems to be rather lacking in other things. Rar.

What should I do? If I wanted a different model, they said I'd have to pay the difference. Woe.

Ack! Run, don't walk, back to that awful place with a copy of the differences and demand to speak with the manager! *hugs* NOT cool, what they did to you.

I'm going to see what I can do about getting something better. I'm more than a little nervous about it, but it does have to be done, I think. *crosses fingers*
