Okay. This is going to be a difficult request to state, but I'm looking for Christmas music. If I have to be inundated with Christmas at work, I'm going to do it MY way. What I'm looking for, are non-traditional type versions of Christmas carols and songs. F'rinstantce, Metallica's "Carol of the Bells" (which I have), or even NON-DIRTY parody type songs. Anybody? I want to make this CD by Saturday night. Recommend... anything!

12 days.

This would appear to be one of those cases where one song ends up with several different titles and artists! It's the same as the Metallica/TSO "Carol of the Bells" and I ADORE this song. :)

Arrogant Worms - Santa Got Arrested
Weird Al Yankovic - Christmas at ground zero
Trans-siberian Orchestra - Carol of the Bells (don't know if this is the same as Metallica version)
Bob Rivers - I am Santa Claus (iron man parody)

Thank you!! :) The Trans-siberian Orchestra version does indeed appear to be the same as the Metallica version. My assumption is that they did it together.

The Bobs - album: Too Many Santas - includes Mrs Claus Needs Some Lovin' (not as sordid as it sounds) and Christmas in Jail

unknown artist but we suspect some of the loons from Big Daddy - Blame it on Christmas - traditional stuff in untraditional ways: Silent Night Spangled Banner by a marching band, That Swingin Manger by the Rat Pack (or a fair approximation thereof), The Lil' Endless Summer Boy, We Three Bings, etc...

various artists - Caroling In Left Field - Michael Hall, 5 Chinese Brothers, Bite The Wax Godhead, doing mostly traditional songs.
Also, Tiny Tim's Christmas Album has some fine (if odd) cuts, O Santa Where Art Thou for a bluegrass take on things.

Canada's Jaymes Bee also has a fine twisted cocktail rock Yule album.

Wow, thank you SO much for the list! :)

Love your icon. Is adorable. At first I thought it was a chocobo *g* but I realise now, it's a griffin, right?

Had to look up what a Chocobo is first...
cute, but you are correct - it is a gryphon (archaic-style spelling.) They have been my avatars for many years - hence the Gryphonsmith Graphyx moniker, as I like to make gryphons.

"Amazing Grace" by Tori Amos and Tool. You can probably find it easily enough on KaZaa where I got it from, or WinMX. :D

I downloaded, and it is great, but unfortunately I have this problem with Amazing Grace -- it always, always makes me cry. *g*

It's a beautiful song, especially when sung well. Doesn't matter who sings it. :D

Others you could try:
Do They know It's Xmas - Band Aid
The Power of Love - Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Coventry Carol, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Good King Wenceslas, Snow, Seeds of Love - Loreena McKennit, which you can d/l here: http://www.quinlanroad.com/winter_garden.html by clicking on the notes. She's got a gorgeous voice.

Some of these get so much play that they may be considered traditional now, but I thought I'd send 'em to you just in case. Here goes:

Chrismas in Hollis - Run DMC
Santa and His Old Lady - Cheech and Chong
12 Days of Christmas - The Mackenzie Brothers
Peace on Earth/The Little Drummer Boy - David Bowie and Bing Crosby
Christmas Wrapping - The Waitresses
Merry Christmas (I don't want to fight tonight) - The Ramones
Is That You, Santy Claus? - Buster Poindexter
And anything off of Jimmy Buffet's Christmas Album

12 days! *bounces*

Thank you!! :) The Bob & Doug MacKenzie one made me HOWL. I'm such a bad Canadian for never having heard that before!

And I love the Bowie-Crosby duet. I'd forgotten all about it. Sigh :)

I'm such a bad Canadian

I won't tell anyone. *g* In fact, my roommie's b-f is Canadian, and he knows more words to "12 Days" than he does to his national anthem.

The Bowie/Crosby duet is a particular favorite of mine. Hope your CD-burning goes well!

My absolute favorite is a song on a Celtic CD called "The Bells of Dublin" (the Chieftans, I think). It is Elvis Costello singing a song called "The Saint Stephen Day Murders." I still laugh everytime I hear it.
