Claire Danes: "When I was a kid, I was one of those really obnoxious 'oooh oooh' girls, with my hand up in the air constantly. I've learned over the years that that's not so attractive, so I've censored that."

Oh good. Thanks Claire. Let's remember that it's not pretty if girls are smart!

Sigh.

Well how else are you going to steal someone else's boyfriend away from them, before inevitably dumping him and marrying someone else? GOD, Ash.

Well, OF COURSE! What's sexier than a dumb girl? 2+2=17... RAWR!

... No ammount of headdesks in the world could do this justice.

Hi Di! Long time no see. I know this comment is a year old but I decided to go back through my half-dozen or so 2010 posts and comments and acknowledge the comments.

So yes. Hi!

You have a Toothless icon. <3

That's kind of what I hope to, but it still rubbed me the wrong way then, and rubs me the wrong way now, because it's so easy to just... take wrong.

Yes, I'm responding to comments that are like a year old. Shh.

I didn't necessarily take it in a bad way. I took it more in the "don't be obnoxious about being smart" way. You can be a genius and be proud without being a keener like Hermione, trying to answer every question.

Just my take on it, though.

Hi you. How ya doing? :) I know this post and comment are from like a year ago but I have decided to try to do, y'know, things. And be responsive and active and a better friend and all of that.

And I can totally see your POV here, now, many months removed from reading the offending quote. Which still kiiiinda rubs me the wrong way, but when I look at it that way, it's better.

Hiya! Doing things is good. Watching Heroes (albeit in its death throes) without you around was sad.

Yeah, she definitely could have worded her statement more clearly.

I think she was talking about being a show off in class. I certainly found that obnoxious in high school and also censured myself. Instead of answering right away, I would wait a moment to see if another colleague was raising their hands, but if not I would do it. I think not only your colleagues, but also the teachers dislike an "insufferable know-it-all", be it boy or girl.

You know, she probably was... still kind of rubbed me the wrong way then and burns a touch now, though. But maybe it's 'cause I resembled that remark a little too much.

(I know this post and comment are a year old almost but I'm striving to be, y'know, a better me.)

I had to come back and check the context of the comment! :) But I have replied to months-and-months old comments before myself, so... good for you!

I didn't take it badly, because I sort of recognize myself in her comment and going through the same realization she went through. Not saying it's good, but then things were different 15/20 years ago and I was reading way too much Bronte at the time (be quiet and meek kind of thing).
