OK, I'm being all wanky, I know, but at least I'm doing it in my own journal.

Hayden Panetierre and Milo Ventimiglia have great chemistry. They, like a handful of their co-stars, are the kind of actors who could very potentially also have great chemistry with, y'know, everybody on the show and most of the props and scenery.

And I am not bothered about the related thing. At all. I mean, dammit, people know how I get over Peter/Nathan.

But am I the only one, seriously, bothered by the age thing? By the fact that canonically, she's fifteen (going-on-sixteen, yes, but I distinctly remember Mr Bennet saying she hadn't yet seen her sixteenth birthday), and Peter is canonically twenty-six?

And, y'know, it's not the eleven year gap that bothers me. If she was twenty-five and he was thirty-six, whatevs.

She's a child. Very mature, sure, but she's a kid. He's a grown-up. Maybe, yes, I have some very personal issues wrapped up in this, but it's ... *flails, not in the good way* Are people just sticking their fingers in their ears and going la-la-la-la?

I have never understood the allure of dating children. I'm forty. Young men are pretty, to be sure, but they are also pretty damned irritating and they don't remember anything, like why Boy George was famous and Elton when he was bisexual. ^_^

You're not the only one bothered by the age thing. And maybe it's because I automatically block out any pairings with adults/kids, but I just don't see Peter/Claire. I'm with you -- those two have chemistry with everybody. They have a connection, but I really don't see it as anything sexual.

Yes. Yes, they are. *g* But then again, fandom is known for incredibly powerful denial & ignoring whatever aspects of a show you want to. Not just Heroes, any & all fandoms. Not that that's a bad thing, mind you. As a slasher, I would have no room to throw stones.

The age thing does stop me though. The related thing does as well, but to each their own on that. I completely get why people find Peter/Nathan or Sam/Dean appealing (in a sexual sense), but for me personally, it's not my thing. But I don't judge at all. The age thing...is somehow a little creepier. I don't know why it would bother me when incest doesn't. I guess because she can't really be 100% a consenting adult at 15. That's also why whenever I occasionally wander into HP fiction, I can't read anything that pairs any of the kids with any of the adults. But maybe HP is a whole other subject. *g*

Tamora Pierce's Wildmage quartet has 15 year old Daine falling in love with 30 year old Numair (who loves her back). Although he does touch on the fact that it's disturbing and some people will have some very not-nice things to say about it (but Daine already got weird stuff said about her for being a wildmage and bastard child). But then, this is also a world where things are a bit more medieval and girls getting paired off in their mid-teens was not so unusual.

I do understand the disturbing factor of Claire's still being a kid thing (as well as the incest thing that's so dirty wrong hot) and have a certain level of disgust for the people who blatantly ignore that in favour of seeing the pairing they want. In any fandom where they pair a child with an adult, really. It's far more interesting to have the topic discussed and probably angsted over than to just pretend it's not an issue.
