Oh I will worship you for that one. First day of the new job and someone was on the phone at the cash register being a general annoyance to all of humanity. Thankfully it wasn't my register. :O

As a bookseller and someone who occasionally has to ring at the register, I have to say I just go ahead and talk to the folks and make them stop their chatter to attend to ME, the person handling their money. If I was vindictive, I'd deliberately make a mistake. *g*

You and my son both!! He loathes and despises people who answer their phones half way through giving him an order - he works at a Starbucks type coffee-shop - and what with the noise of the grinders and the steamers so they have to talk loudly into their phones, and because they're shouting it makes it difficult to hear someone next to them ordering... He gets quite pissed off - especially when they don't make eye-contact when they pay and he gives them change. So rude!
