Maybe Carson didn't want Rodney to get hurt and felt like the others at the time that John would hook up with Teyla...... But the crush thing would also explain it .....just like going on the date with Rodney and Katie, and then not punching Rodney when his kissed him even if it was Cadman, LOL....
