Oh, it absolutely goes both ways. What I objected to, which was the point of the letter, was the generalisation that fantasy ain't for girls. That women don't prefer it. I mentioned chick lit first, because, well. The "chick" part. Then fantasy, because that's my genre of choice. Threw in a bunch of other genres, ended with--stuff. That women like stuff, and please don't put us all into a single category, because it sucks.
Some random person off the street making a generalisation? Sigh. Someone in some forum on the internets? SIGH. A journalist? AGH. Hackles. Raised.
