Double Drabble: Survivors
By:
ashinae
Pairing: Ares/Gabrielle
Summary: Grief had settled in for now. [ Set post-FIN. ]
Disclaimer: They're not mine and I'm most certainly not making any money off of this.
Survivors
The boat had long since disappeared. Gabrielle didn't know how long she'd been standing alone on the beach. The sweltering sun was sinking rapidly. Grief had settled in for now.
She was alone.
She sensed his presence more than heard him arrive and approach her. "She's gone," she whispered. It hurt to say it.
"She's gone." Louder this time. Grief. Rage and loss and unspeakable grief.
"I know."
"You should have intervened." She couldn't turn around to look at him. Nor could she summon up the strength to rail against him for his choices. He only did what suited him, and apparently this mess suited him just fine. Bastard.
"Don't touch me," she said, softly, but didn't try to pull away when his hands curled around her arms. "You should have done something."
He didn't say anything else. Soon her vision was blurring, and everything seemed to be swimming, but that made perfect sense since she was staring at the water. When a sob escaped her, he slowly slid his arms around her shoulders. Neither said anything as she leaned heavily back against him. His nose was in her hair and he held her tighter.
You can have me, now.
