I appreciate this. nigellus/Desiree's has this seeming attitude that she's some victim, when she's been horribly irresponsibile about all of this -- creating vids after all this came out that still use my edits, keeping quite quiet about the fact that at least two of her other (older) vids use my edits, and then there is at least one other vid that uses another vidder's stuff.
I haven't been discouraged from vidding; I will always vid. I've been looking into other options though -- I have started watermarking my newest vids (can't do my old ones, as I re-ripped my source, so my original working files no longer work, and the mpegs aren't taking the watermark well). I don't know if my host will allow me to password protect my site, and I have also considered only showing my vids in friendslocked posts here -- but that means that I lot of people, who have previously enjoyed them, may not be able to. I don't believe that fan artists, of any type, should have to hide from each other like that, and I know a lot of people won't actually e-mail and ask for passwords, or get a LiveJournal. I make the vids for me, but I share them because I know how many vid fans there are out there (seeing as I love watching them myself -- this is, naturally, how I found Desiree's vids).
