Dear Internets: Ash sucks at fashion. Pls to help. Thx.

I have this top that I have paired with a daringly wee (for me) black skirt, a tiny black shrug, and will wear with a pair of black heels.

What the HELL do I put on my legs. It is winter! And I ALWAYS wear black microfibre tights unless it's over 10 degrees (celsius) outside. I won't go bare-legged. Do I dare to track down fishnets for a fat chick? Do I just go with nude hose? I DON'T KNOW. SOMEONE HELP.

I didn't want to go to the company Christmas party this year. Our office has actually been part of a larger... thing... of other optometry offices across the country since 2008, and this year's party is actually a big party being held by head office for all the offices in Calgary. And those head office types, too.

But I kind of got emotionally blackmailed into it by one of the very few co-workers I have who have worked for the office longer than me. Dear sweet Dennis. Anyway. Dude totally emotionally blackmailed me into going. There are going to be prizes and a draw and shit. I BETTER WIN SOMETHING LET ME TELL YOU because I do. not. want. to. go.

In other news, we were already down a body in the office. Someone got let go. And then someone else got sick. And then someone else went on vacation--she spends the majority of November through March in Palm Springs. And then ANOTHER someone else got sick. WE HAVE NO STAFF OH SWEET JESUS. So I have lived at work the last few days.

Our office manager gave me a mall gift card as thanks for all my help, so I put it toward that shirt there. And I got a hug! From my manager. Made me feel good. I have not been doing well, and it's getting harder and harder to get out of bed, so it was kind of nice.

And then! AND THEN!! I was all prepared to pull another ten-hour shift, and Doctor H kicked me out. I protested. I was all like blah blah, missed a ton of work, missing more this pay, missed some already this pay, I am ready. And he's all "You've worked really hard and you've done so much and so please go home and rest" and I'm all "... Are you telling me to go home?!" and he's like "YEP. GET THEE GONE WOMAN." And I was flummoxed. My ox was thoroughly flummed. But I took my gift card and bought that shirt after trying on EVERYTHING I wanted to, and yeah.

That's my story.

With a top like that I would probably go for a pair of grey tights, although black or nude would do in a pinch. Obviously in winter bare legs is not a comfortable look at all. Very nice top btw.

What a cute top! I bet you look fantastic in it. If you want to wear fishnets, I say fucking go for it. You'll look adorable. But if you want something warmer, aren't there patterned tights out there? Like, with some sort of little flashiness to them? If you can get something that compliments the top, like draws out the colour or pattern or silver in it, that'd be awesome.

Also, YAY for being appreciated at work! *hugs* You really do need to make sure you rest, you know that, madame?

The top is great and you will look splendid, no doubt. Hm, nude in this kind of temperature cannot be comfortable, so black will do well. There are patterned tights, so why not have a look around. Anything that'll keep you warm.

Over here there are lots of textured black tights around, not necessarily a big lacey pattern, but maybe a smallish open-textured knit in a heavy denier would do? Keep you warm, look fashionable and you'll feel 'covered' if you're not used to short skirts. Or if you can find them and you're feeling bolder... try looking for some opaque tights in teal, to match your top, once again 40 denier, Or, the semi-opaque shiny blacks to give a touch of sparkle?

I wouldn't go for nude at all, as you have black shoes, darkish top and black skirt keeping your legs dark will make you look taller and sleeker.

PS: The 'taller and sleeker' applies to everybody and isn't aimed directly at you. Wearing one tone or colour always makes people look taller - no demarcation line of change of colour to draw the eye horizontally see? :)
