re DVD players: "You get what you pay for" isn't always true. We got fucked over by Sony -- paid $250 for one of their players two years ago and after a year of use, can't get through a whole disk half of the time. It freezes up around chapter 15. Old, rented, brand-new: they all play (or don't play) the same. After some googlin', I discovered that this particular Sony model is a piece of shit, that just about everyone who bought it has the same problems, and Sony will NOT admit their product is defective. They'll fix it -- for the same price as a new unit. So the hub and I have decided to throw this POS out in the yard and buy a cheap model. We'd like to finish a movie up in the living room for a change instead of all crowded on the son's bed, watching the film on the PS2.
