Okay, honestly now...

Is there something really, really wrong with me that my desire to see Pirates of the Caribbean is next to nil? And, yeah, there's a lot of other nonsense playing right now, and to be released later this summer, and yes there are a lot of silly pointless (pre- &) sequels and dumb romantic comedies and some remakes and gore-fests to be released or are already playing. But... really. It's a movie based on an amusement park ride. Sure, Orli's pretty darn fine. And Keira Knightley's breasts are already getting much publicity, and I have no objections to those either. The movie just looks... silly! Is there something wrong with me that I'm thinking this? That Sara and Jo and I seem to be the only women in existence right now who are looking at this movie and thinking "Ummm... what's the deal?" Johnny Depp looks downright odd in all the publicity I've seen. Be honest with me -- is there a reason, besides Bloom's hotness and Ms Knightley's cleavage, that I should be so excited about this movie? What is it I'm not getting? I'm confused. Horribly, terribly confused.

I am so with you.

I think it looks lame as hell, and Johnny Depp looks like a freak in black eyeliner, and hey, I LIKE eyeliner on guys, so I know it's not that.

The fact that it is based off of a ride at Disney World isn't endearing me either. Weird.

Also, every time Orlando waxes poetically about Depp's skill as an actor, I have to struggle with hysterical laughter. But I'm mean like that. *G*

I should be with you on this, really I should. I couldn't believe they were making a movie not only based on a ride, but based on a ride I thought was lame when I was ten years old. On top of which, I'm not a huge Legolas fan. Pretty doesn't do it for me in men. I like older. And scruffier. And yeah, Depp looks like he's playing an utter loon.

But--there's always a but--I have to admit, I'm kinda looking forward to it. And in my defense I can only offer this: I'm a sucker for films with sword fights. (See my lj icon.) Had major problems with the latest Bond flick, but the duel in it melted away my critical faculties. Keep hoping that someone will manage to bring back the swashbuckler genre in a major way. So, yeah, I'm afraid I'll be in line, possibly even on the opening weekend.

Completely off topic, but did you get my email about the TTrek vid panel? I've started putting together a handout for it, and wanted to coordinate with you and the other panelist about the things we might want to talk about.
